Our S4 Geography students have just completed their geography fieldwork, experiencing the full five stages of geographical enquiry for the first time — from planning and preparation, data collection and data analysis, to drawing conclusions and evaluation.
Students used systematic sampling to identify sampling points and collected first-hand data with instruments such as thermometers and anemometers to measure temperature and wind speed in areas with different building densities. They also used assessment sheets to observe and evaluate building density, while collecting secondary data from the Hong Kong Observatory website on the temperature, wind speed and wind direction in Ta Kwu Ling at the same time for comparison.
Through this fieldwork, students deepened their understanding of the relationship between urban climate and building density, while developing essential geographical enquiry skills.
