S1 Geography Field Trip (Exploring Long Valley & Ho Sheung Heung)

Today, our S1 students embarked on an enriching field trip to Long Valley and Ho Sheung Heung, studying ecology and land use in the New Territories.

At Long Valley Nature Park, students observed the wetland ecosystem up close—golden rice fields, blooming water lilies, and clusters of arrowheads created a vibrant natural landscape. This January, the wetlands welcomed migratory birds, and students were thrilled to spot egrets and herons from the bird hide, witnessing firsthand the area's role as a crucial stopover for these winged travelers.

We were honored to have Ms. Wong Chat Dei, Chairwoman of the Hong Kong New Territories Local Agriculture Association, as our guide once again! This year, she specially arranged for students to visit her farm and pick fresh cherry tomatoes, offering hands-on experience in organic farming practices.

The journey continued at Ho Sheung Heung, where students analyzed flood prevention designs along the Beas River and documented rural land use patterns, comparing them with urban landscapes. Through this immersive experience, students not only reinforced their classroom learning but also gained a deeper appreciation for the harmony between humans and nature.
